The Lok Sabha passed the Prevention of Corruption (Amendment) Bill, 2018 , Which has its main focus to penalize the bribe givers/takers to the public officials.
This is an amendment to the Prevention of Corruption Act, 1988 which was replaced by Prevention of Corruption Act (PCA), 1947,

What crimes were punished by this PCA 1988?
•if public servant accepts money or gifts over and above their salary, in return for favoring a person in their official duty.
•When a public servant accepts gifts from a person with whom they have a business or official relationship without paying them.
•When a public servant is guilty of criminal misconduct such as regularly accepting bribes to favor people during their official duty.
•If any person accepts money or gifts in return for influencing the public servant by using his personal connection or through illegal or corrupt methods, this person can also be punished.
•Any person helping the public servant commit these crimes can also be punished.

What is new under the 2018 Amendments?
•Giving bribe is a Punishable offence with 7 years Jail term.
•One can report within 7days if forced to bribe.
•Bribe is termed as an undue advantage
•Police cant investigates without prior approval of the authorities except for finding Redhanded.
•Sanctions needed for prosecution of former office holders.
•Misproportanation of property and intentionally and intentionally enriching oneself are two misconducts
•A special court for confiscating the property
