India is, or should we say, on its way to becoming a defence powerhouse. The initiatives and updates include a TRI-SERVICE DEFENCE SPACE AGENCY that is to be set in the capital of the southern-Indian state of Karnataka, BANGALORE with ace fighter pilot Air Vice Marshal SP Dharkar of the IAF as its likely head,
the space agency includes the PARA SF from the army, marine commandos (MARCOS) of the navy and the GARUD from the air force. India has now claimed to be a space power, with “Mission Shakthi” and the successful anti-satellite A-SAT operation which has booked the 4th place in the fight for the position of global space powers. The United States of America launched its first A-SAT in the year 1958 followed by China and Russia in the years 1964 and 2007 respectively. However, the authority of controlling these assets are yet to be handed over to the agency after its establishment.
WHY BANGALORE?
Bangalore is the headquarters of the Indian Space Research Organization (ISRO) which manages space programs of the country and it is the obvious choice to set-up the space agency in the city.
AVM SP DHARKAR
Air Vice Marshal SP Dharkar is an ace fighter pilot and an Ati Vishist Seva medal awardee dated on 26th jan 2014.
His appointments and postings are as follows:-
CONCLUSION:-
The agency will be an asset to the defence forces and will look forward for further enhancements and will co-operate in union as a tri-service agency to guard the airspace of the Nation. The space agency is one among the three special agencies including the Defence Cyber Agency (DCA) in the capital, headed by Rear Admiral Gupta of the Indian Navy and The Special Forces agency would be headed by a Major General rank officer of the Army and is likely to come up at Agra, which already has a Para brigade and the wherewithal to airlift Special Forces operatives in large numbers as the base co-exists with an IAF transport aircraft squadron specializing in these operations.
