With the increasing population and urbanisation, social problems have also seen to have a rapid growth in our country India. Social issues are a barrier in the growth and development of a country and the existence of social problems in the society is a bane to humanity. Here are 5 biggest social issues in India right now.

  • Proper education is one of the keys to eradicate illiteracy. It should be a compulsory amenity everyone should be provided, only then there is some chance of increasing the literacy rates in India.
  • Providing free education to all and spreading the importance of education among the poor people.
  • Inflicting moral values among the young generations.

  • Increasing employment opportunities. Unemployment is one of the main causes of poverty. By providing more employment opportunities, poverty can be eliminated as people would be able to afford their basic needs.
  • Looking after the issue of over-population. Controlling the ever-increasing population growth of India. If there are more people than there are resources available then there arises the problem of poverty.
  • Spread the importance of education.
  • Minimum basic needs should be provided free of cost by the government.
  • By implementing social security programmes.

Usually, the victims are blamed rather than the criminals as a part of shaming and because of this reason, the criminals find the freedom to roam about and commit more crimes without any fear.
The future of the country would be doomed if people don’t learn how to treat women.
In the northern part of India, women were treated terribly even in the older times. They were deprived of their rights and were mentally, emotionally, physically assaulted.

In a diverse country like India, if issues like religious violence takes place frequently then, imbalance occurs in the society which further leads to disruption in the peace among the citizens of the country.
Contrasting religious beliefs is one of the major causes of religious violence. Illiteracy is another main issue which is the root of religious violence amongst the uneducated people.

How to tackle religious violence?

  • By inculcating the idea of secularism among the citizens.
  • Increasing the literacy rates.
  • Creating awareness among people of different religious beliefs about other religions.
  • Co-existing by compromising from both sides.
  • Treating people from other religion as fellow humans and living in harmony without any discrimination and feeling of hatred.

Pollution level in India has increased drastically in the past years which has led to the incoming various climatic changes.
The water level has already depleted in many states of the country.
Degradation of land, depletion of natural resources and loss of the rich biodiversity are some of the major concerns to be noted due to pollution.
It has been already declared that Tamil Nadu is now left with no groundwater. Estimates show that India will face serious water crisis in most of its states within the coming decade.
The northern and central part of India is filled with air pollution from vehicles and industries. The people living there has to undergo many serious health problems and are prone to deadly diseases because of the toxic pollutants exposed in the atmosphere.
In the north-eastern part of India, degradation of the biodiversity has been a serious concern. In addition to the natural factors, human involvement has further degraded the natural resources and many species of flora and fauna are already extinct or are in the verge of extinction.

How to tackle pollution?

  • By increasing awareness among the citizens and the government.
  • By following pollution control and pollution reducing schemes.
  • By using the resources judiciously and using alternatives to the goods that add to pollution.
  • Importance should be given and immediate measures should be taken on this issue of rapid climate change.

One of the main causes of the generation of such social issue is due to the complexity in the mindset of the people. The complex nature of various ethnic groups, different religions, different castes and people from different economic backgrounds, cultural backgrounds etc adds to the social disputes and social problems or issues in the Indian society.
To eradicate such social problems, enough people must be literate and have sufficient knowledge on the matter of concern. Also, human values should be considered always.
