What exactly is this Technical Liaison Unit?
India has set up ISRO Technical Liaison Units (ITLU) in the past at different locations in the USA and Europe. Its decision to set up an ITLU in Moscow is an attempt to enhance the cooperation and understanding between Russia and India in matters involving space programmes. As both countries are actively pursuing agendas and coming up with different technologies and methods to learn more about the outer space, this liaison unit would help them to pool resources and work collectively to achieve greater mutual benefit.
Why Is It Important?
Setting up of this ITLU is a step towards strengthening the bilateral ties between Russia and India. By mutual cooperation in various aspects of space technology, this goal can be achieved. Plus, international collaboration with space agencies will gain ISRO the benefit of accessing key technologies and facilities which will contribute in helping in pulling off the Gaganyaan human space programme. Considering the target for this programme which is set for 2022, collaborating with Russia would be beneficial and has happened at the right time.

Details
- It will cost about Rs1.50 crore per annum, inclusive of all taxes, salaries, rent etc.
- It has been approved by the cabinet, led by PM Modi.
- More inputs will enable the countries to adopt more precision in order to be able to pull off the targets of the programme.
- ISRO will be sent regular updates on the developments in research and development from the information gathered through their meetings with various professionals such as the scientists, the government and industries, through its deputy officer who shall be stationed there.
Conclusion
Setting up an ITLU can be beneficial both technologically as well as in strengthening our international ties. The advantages of setting up this unit as massive considering the technical help and resources we could gain access to. This is a great step taken by the government and would help develop the nation and will contribute to its growth.
