The Indian government declared the National Socialist Council of Nagaland (NSCN) as a terrorist group in the year 2015 because of their unlawful activities. NSCN is a major group of insurgents, anarchists, rebels, revolutionaries, and maybe terrorists. The existence of NSCN is seen in Nagaland and some districts of Manipur. They operate in the North-East region of India mainly in the hills of Nagaland and Manipur as reported by the inhabitants living there.
NSCN activities also affect Assam and some major districts like Tirap and Changlang adjacent to Arunachal Pradesh. It also operates on an international level, effects and influences Myanmar, mainly its northern region. NSCN works to fulfill its main objective of establishing a sovereign state also called “Greater Naga” by the unification of the Naga inhabitant’s dominated arenas in the northeast of India and the contagious effects of inhabitants residing in northern Burma, occupied by Naga tribal people.
The NSCN introduced their aspirations through a slogan, "Nagaland for Christ” according to this slogan what Journalist Bertil Lintner called revolutionary socialism. When the slogan was misunderstood by people, for Naga to be a Theocratic state, this misunderstanding was made clear in 2005 in a BBC interview with Thuingaleng Muviah, one of the leaders of NSCN(I-M). He stated that the slogan has been misunderstood, and it's just a slogan, not a law, he made clear that the slogan was made for the hope of people living in Nagaland as Nagaland consists of more than 95% Christians. The State needs to be secular, if we fail to do so then we would be betraying not anyone but ourselves.
In the year 2015, after the joining of NSCN with a terrorist group named United Liberation Front of Western South East Asia it broke off the peace treaty signed with the Indian Government. The Indian army’s base was ambushed by NSCN and they killed 18 Army jawans.
On 10 June a surgical strike was conducted by India against NSCN and the casualty figure was approximately 158 according to the reports of Indian media. According to the reports it has been said that NSCN has contacts with China for finance and ammunition. The outfit of NSCN also stated a possibility that this terrorist organization may also have connections with the United Human Rights Council, Unrepresented Nations and People Organizations and Working Group on Indigenous Populations.
