DRDO successfully test fires Brahmos supersonic cruise missile. “The missile was successfully test-fired from Chandipur in Odisha for its full range of 290-km during the launch jointly conducted by DRDO and Brahmos Aerospace”, an official statement from Defence Ministry said.
Brahmos, a supersonic cruise jointly developed by India and Russia and DRDO witnessed success in the test fire of a missile. The target was that which mimicked a tank that is functional and located in the Kurnool ranges. The launch of the missile took place from a man portable tripod and it hit the target in top attack mode and was able to destroy it with precision.
The missile being a third-generation has incorporation of state-of-art infrared imaging seeker along with advanced avionics. The missile’s weigh is that of around 14kg and its maximum range being around 2.5 kms. It can be used by infantry battalions against armored vehicles and is will the one to replace the currently used Soviet-era anti-tank missiles by the Indian Army.
The successful mission has paved a way for India for its flagship of ‘Make In India’ programme and also bolstering our defence indigenisation. Also on the contrary the indigenous content in the formidable weapon has reached a high value. Defence Minister Rajnath Singh congratulated DRDO for the successful test.
