Meaning of ADGPI
ADGPI stands for Additional Directorate General of Public Information. There are two sections of Directorate – 'Media Relations' and 'Information Operations'. ADGPI works under Director General of Military Intelligence. An officer of the rank of Major General is in-charge of it.
Why does ADGPI exist?
Social Media is the most powerful tool for any company or organisation to connect with people, especially the youth and promote it's ideas. The Indian Army also uses this tool to connect with people and the ADGPI is responsible for all of that.
What does ADGPI do?
The work of ADGPI involves Public Relation (PR) activities, Media Relations and Monitoring, Info release, Publicity, Image Projection and Perception Management of Indian Army. It also aims to boost our confidence in the Army both in times of peace and war.
Responsibilities of ADGPI
- Formulating the policies and implementing orders regarding Promotion and Perception Management activities.
- Protecting the image and reputation of the Indian Army.
- To establish and sustain the confidence in Indian Army among general public.
- Providing information on important matters and issues to DGMI, DGMO, COAS and VCOAS.
- To act as Army Spokesperson on matters relating to operations conducted by Army.
- Maintaining the Indian Army website.
- Interacting with mass media and issuing press releases and to manage relations with media.
- To manage the print, electronic and cyber media related to the Indian Army.
- To interact with Ministry of Defense, Ministry of Home Affairs and Ministry of Information and Broadcasting.
In short, the duty of ADGPI is to host, issue and manage what information to share, what content to publish and to enhance the reputation of Army among the public. Whatever news and content we hear and read about the Indian Army is published and managed by ADGPI.
